deaf consumer

The terms deaf and hard of hearing consumer refer to individuals who use interpreter or transliterator services. These terms have gained favor over client and student. The term client may incorrectly suggest a direct business relationship between the transliterator and consumer. The term student incorrectly implies that direct instruction occurs between the transliterator and consumer. Such instruction is counter to the professions of interpreting and transliteration and violates the tenets of the CLT Code of Conduct.
