The letter Qq presents interesting challenges for new cuers. Like the letter Xx, Qq is unique as letter in written English because it does not consistently represent a single phoneme. In fact, it often serves to represent more than one phoneme in a word. For this reason, instructors may devote time in an introductory cued English class to covering how words with Qq are cued.

Common Pronunciation

The letter Qq is most frequently used with the letter Uu. The pair is most commonly pronounced as a combinations of /kkkkkkkkk/ and /wwwwwwwww/ as in quick, quit, and equal.
