Mixed hearing loss is a form of hearing loss in which a conductive hearing loss occurs with a sensorineural hearing loss (ASHA, n/d, http://www.asha.org/public/hearing/Mixed-Hearing-Loss/). Conductive hearing losses can be identified on the audiogram by an air-bone gap, whereas the bone conduction hearing test (symbols: < > ) and the air conduction hearing test (symbols: x O) are not at the same hearing levels. Sensorineural hearing losses have no bone-air gap and symbols (<, o) and (>, x) overlap. Mixed hearing losses have frequencies with both gaps and no gaps.
