Transliteration refers to the facilitation of communication between two modalities of the same language (e.g., spoken English to cued English). This differs from interpretation in which information is transferred from one language into another (e.g. spoken English to American Sign Language).

Cued language transliterators must not only be fluent cuers, but must also possess the profesional skills and knowledge required to transliterate effectively for a diverse population of deaf cueing consumers.
