contact finger

The contact finger refers to the part of the hand used to touch vowel placements. In general, the contact finger is the longest extended finger of a handshape. So, for handshape 3 the tip of the middle finger is used to contact the placements. This rule does not apply to handshape 8 where the contact finger varies according to the placement.
